Sharing & discovering Snippets

If you have created a Snippet, you can choose to share it with your team!

Sharing a Snippet

In order to share a Snippet, you will need to make it discoverable. You can do this when creating or editing a Snippet and selecting Discoverable in the Visibility dropdown.

You can only share a Snippet if you have the Administer published Snippets or Share Snippets global permission. By default, all Jira users have Share Snippets permissions.

Discovering Snippets

You can find Snippets that have been shared by your team members by going to the Discover snippets section of the Snippet Manager. Find your favourite Snippets by either searching for them or by using the filters.

You can use shared Snippets for your own projects by either subscribing or duplicating the shared Snippet.

Subscribing to Snippets

When you have found a Snippet that you want to use, you can click the Subscribe button on the top right of the Snippet.

When subscribed to the Snippet, the Snippet will become available in My Snippets section of the Snippet Manager and in the Issue Glance view. You can copy the Snippet and use it to your convenience. You will automatically receive updates to the Snippet if the Snippet is modified by the Snippet owner (or anyone with the Administer published Snippets global permission).

Duplicating Snippets

You can also choose to duplicate the Snippet by clicking on the Duplicate Snippet button on the top right corner of the Snippet. When duplicating the Snippet you can choose a new title, adjust the project type(s) and labels.

Duplicated Snippets will appear in the My Snippets section of the Snippet Manager as well as the Issue Glance view. You can copy the Snippet and use it to your convenience, as well as make modifications to adjust the Snippet to your needs.

Shared Snippets permissions

After installing the Snippets for Jira app, two new global permissions will be added to your Jira instance:

  • Administer published Snippets

  • Share Snippets

By default, all Jira users in the instance will have the Share Snippets permission, and all Jira Administrators have the Administer published Snippets permission.

You can use the Share Snippets global permission to limit who can share Snippets. To manage shared Snippets, use the Administer published Snippets permission as this will allow users to edit & delete any shared Snippets.
